Shop for Rhodolite Garnet Jewelry
Shopping for your next piece of rhodolite garnet jewelry? Perhaps you’re looking for something to celebrate your second anniversary. Or maybe, your beloved was born in January. Whatever the reason, the purplish red color of these garnet gemstones cannot be beat.
What is a Rhodolite Garnet?
Discovered in North Carolina in 1898, this variety of garnet was named for the greek word rhodon meaning rose. It is also a nod to the flower rhododendron. A blend of almandine and pyrope garnets is responsible for the raspberry red color visible.
Today, much of the world’s rhodolite is mined in Sri Lanka and Tanzania.
This stone is suitable for daily wear because it measures a 7 on the mohs scale. Additionally, it measures 1.77-1.82 on the refractive index, meaning it is quite brilliant for a colored gemstone.
Furthermore, we enjoy using this gemstone in our jewelry design. The purple color lends itself beautifully to a variety of mountings. Whether you choose a cushion cut stone, checkerboard cut, or something completely different, it will be beautiful.
Although we offer a selection of garnet jewelry in our estore, feel free to visit us at 951 Monterey Street, San Luis Obispo. We would love to custom make a piece for you!
